Aside from their regular concert productions, UMO Jazz Orchestra produces annually tens of audience enhancement and educational events, such as school concerts, workshops and concerts for senior citizens. In year 2012 the events reached an audience of 5727 people. The primary goal is to make UMO more approachable for special groups and enhance the general health and well-being by live music.
Music teacher Stina Myllys has been credited the first annual award for audience work. She was awarded for her relentless work with the junior big bands supported by UMO. She is the conductor in Vuosaari Junior Big Band and Krunikka Star Big Band in the schools of Kruununhaka and Vuosaari.
Stina Myllys is being awarded with a scholarship in UMO's concert with Jorma Kalevi Louhivuori. The New Way concert takes place in Vuotalo on the 26th of September.
