UMO and Club For Five to revisit their collaborative tango concert next spring

UMO and Club For Five celebrate their anniversary – the former their 40th and the latter their 15th – by revisiting their popular collaborative tango concert next spring. Erilainen tangokonsertti (A Different Tango Concert) is spectacle of entertainment where Unto Mononen’s and Toivo Kärki’s evergreen tango numbers are reinterpreted by Finland’s number one big band and the classy vocal group. The two groups will do the tango in Helsinki, Turku, Hyvinkää, Hämeenlinna and Tampere in March and April 2015.

A Different Tango Concert pays homage to two legendary Finnish composers, Unto Mononen and Toivo Kärki. In the hands of an unusual line-up – that of a big band and a five-singer ensemble – their well-known pieces acquire exciting and entirely new tints: the dramatic genre of tango is crossed with film music, jazz, disco, even rock in new versions which will transport the audience from America to Argentina and Cuba to Portugal. Arrangers behind the project include Marzi Nyman, Pessi Levanto and Mikko Hassinen - names that stand for quality guaranteed.

"The concert first invaded concert halls around Finland a few years ago. There has been a wish on the audience’s part that this concert be revisited by us, and as the upcoming year does not only bring our two the anniversaries, but Toivo Kärki’s centennial anniversary, too, the equation was more than clear", says Jouni Kannisto of Club For Five.
