Tampere-based Eclipse Music released recently two first-class albums. Kadi Quartet's debut, "Stories", and Ville Vokkolainen & Kadotettujen Paratiisi's self-titled album are both characterised by open-mindedness, strong role of free expression and testing of genre boundaries.
Eclipse Music, whose ambitious discography includes Kari Ikonen & Karikko’s and Elifantree’s albums, to mention a few, is known particularly as the younger generation’s record label. The Tampere-based label, managed by Tapio Ylinen, was founded in 2007. In April, Eclipse Music’s repertoire grew bigger by two releases; Kadi Quartet’s debut, “Stories”, and Ville Vokkolainen & Kadotettujen Paratiisi’s self-titled album.
Kadi Quartet, the winner of the 2013 Young Nordic Jazz Comets Finnish qualifying heat, is, indeed, one of the rising stars at the moment. The quartet, lead by vocalist Kadi Vija, fuses the melodicity and effortlessness of pop music with the technical ambition and improvisational freedom of jazz music. In keeping with the collective spirit of the group, Vija tests the traditional role of the vocalist by using her voice as one instrument among others.
“Stories” is a real must-have for anyone into groovy pop-jazz.

Composer Ville Vokkolainen’s group, Kadotettujen Paratiisi, challenges mainstream music boldly with their experimental style that could be described as a mixture of jazz and contemporary music. The collective is formed by the cream of new Finnish music, including Pauli Lyytinen (Raoul Björkenheim Ecstacy, Elifantree, Equally Stupid), Jorma Tapio (Sound & Fury), Eero Tikkanen (Mopo, Fredator, Auteur Jazz) and Ilmari Heikinheimo (Raoul Björkenheim, Sound & Fury).
Friends of alternative music find in this album a magnificent, pensive art music experience in which Voikkolainen’s soundscapes shape and reshape themselves into mystical sonic paintings.
