Turku Jazz Orchestra will open its autumn season celebrating jazz legend Clark Terry's anniversary year on Wednesday 2.9. at Linnateatteri, when the dazzling trumpet player Jukka Eskola performs as a guest soloist. The concert will also be streamed live on Facebook.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of trumpet player Clark Terry. In honor of the anniversary year, Wednesday's concert evening promises a cross-section of Terry's extensive career, and there is no real shortage of material - Clark Terry is one of the most recorded jazz musicians in history, and played in the bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Quincy Jones among others. Jukka Eskola will perform as the guest soloist of the evening, and the concert will be conducted by big band influencer Rasmus Soini.

Trumpeter Jukka Eskola is one of the most famous jazz musicians in Finland. He has released six solo albums and performed as a soloist with several big bands and symphony orchestras both in Finland and abroad. In addition to his jazz career, the versatile Eskola is also known for several television entertainment orchestras and ensembles of leading pop artists in Finland. In addition, Eskola is the artistic director of the Elojazz and SavoyJAZZFest events and the Oulu All Star Big Band.

The Young jazz promise Rasmus Soini is a Savonlinna-based composer, arranger, conductor and pedagogue. Soini is especially known as the artistic director and conductor of Sointi Jazz Orchestra, which he founded in 2013. Soini is also a sought-after instructor, and his compositions and arrangements have been performed by several domestic big bands and wind instrument orchestras.

The concert's audience capacity has been limited so that the groups can fit into the hall at safety distances from each other. The organizers recommend using contactless payment at cash registers, and using face masks is welcomed. There are plenty of hand sanitizers at Linnateatteri, and the staff will provide guidance on safety issues. Admission to the concert is prohibited if you have symptoms of the flu, are in a coronavirus exposure chain, or have visited a country from where quarantine is recommended on arrival in the last two weeks.

The concert will be streamed live on the Jazz City Turku and Turku Jazz Orchestra's Facebook pages, and a support ticket for the stream can be purchased. More information soon at tjo.fi.
