Turku Jazz Orchestra celebrates saxophonist Kimmo Gröhn's 60th birthday

On Friday, multi-instrumentalist Kimmo Gröhn's compositions will be heard at a birthday concert in Sigyn Hall and Facebook Live. The versatile musician has also invited guest soloists from his long career.

On Friday 16th October Turku Jazz Orchestra celebrates the 60th birthday of saxophonist-composer Kimmo Gröhn in the Sigyn Hall of the Turku Conservatory. Gröhn has been playing in the ranks of the Turku Jazz Orchestra since the orchestra was founded in 2012. The versatile musician and composer will present his new and old productions at a celebratory concert called Old, new, borrowed and blue. In addition to TJO's own soloists, the concert stage will also feature guests from Gröhn's extensive career: singer Ami Aspelund and Pauliina Saarinen & Mikael “Fagu” Haavisto, known from musical stages.

Tickets will also be sold on the day of the concert at the door of the Sigyn Hall from 18:00 onward, if the concert is not sold out in advance.

To guarantee safety distances at Sigyn Hall, there are fewer ticketson sale for the concert than usual. The use of a face mask is recommended in public interiors and public events in Turku, and good hand and coughing hygiene should also be observed at the event. Admission to the concert is prohibited if you have symptoms of the flu, are in a coronavirus exposure chain, or have visited a country from which quarantine is recommended on arrival in the last two weeks.

The concert will be streamed live on Jazz City Turku and Turku Jazz Orchestra's Facebook pages: facebook.com/turkujazzorchestra/live. Viewers do not need to have their own Facebook account. Turku's jazz events can be supported by purchasing a support ticket for the streaming concert from Tiketti.
