Turku Jazz festival’s new concept was a success: The festival doubled the number of visitors this year.

The annual Turku Jazz festival, organised this year for the first time in the summer season instead of early spring, closed last Sunday on 17 August. The renewed festival met and greatly exceeded the organisers’ expectations. Turku Jazz beat past years’ rates of attendance already on the opening day, when the number of people enjoying the free concerts in restaurant Koulu’s courtyard topped 2000 persons.

In total, the four-day festival was attended by roughly 3 100 people; twice as much as in the past years.

The park-like outdoor milieu was much commended by the audience as cosy and a suitable backdrop for live jazz. Festival guests shared the opinion, praising the stage, tech and location. “Apart from a few slight modifications there’s no doubt we will return to the same concept in the future”, says Turku Jazz President Kimmo Hyyppä.

“It was also gratifying to witness that so many visitors from outside Turku had arrived to attend the festival.”
