Thirty years of great jazz, surprises and cosy atmosphere. The anniversary year welcomes artist such as 3TM, Mopo, Samuli Putro, Mikko Innasen Maakuntalaulu-uudistus and hot French names Claudia Solail & Benjamin Moussay and Papanosh.
Raahen Rantajatsit is held on July 26th to 28th in Raahe. The line-up of the thirtieth anniversary year consists of familiar names from the earlier years but also new and surprising ensembles. The programme is tightly in the swim of time and emphasizes jazz music’s bold and experimental side. The venues vary from theatre to library and outdoor stages to coffee houses. The three-day festival offers an adventure concert in an island, admission free event at the market place, children’s concert, artist meetings and a workshop by local musicians and guests.
This year’s international guests come from France. Singer Claudia Solalin and pianist Benjamin Moussay performs music from their co-album Butter In My Brain, which was released in the end of last year. Blazing hard bob is presented by Papanosh from Normandy, who also answers for dance rhythms of Saturday’s jam session.
Putro Mopo have a bespoken special concert, where the singer-songwriter Samuli Putro and Mopo have worked Putro’s pieces into new interesting arrangements. Saxophonist Linda Fredriksson, bassist Eero Tikkanen and drummer Eeti Nieminen gained international attention with their new Mopocalypse album and on Thursday Mopo gives also a concert of its own.
Finnish jazz is also represented by Teppo Mäkynen’s Emma Awarded 3TM trio, post jazz band VIRTA, Gourmet, Kahden miehen galaksi, and Don Johnson Big Band. Woodwind virtuoso Mikko Innanen continues his project Maakuntalaulu-uudistus at Rantajatsit with both duo and trio ensembles. The young group Raahe City Funk Unit takes care of the local representation with their guests.
The programme for the thirthieth Rantajatsit was planned by Charles Gil, who has been the artistic director of Rantajatsit since 2014.
