The ninth edition of the Flame Jazz Cruise will cast off on Saturday 24 September. This time, the theme is soul, seeing some of Finland's best voices of the genre hit the stage on cruise ship Viking Grace.
Osmo Ikonen – a familiar face from the rock band Sunrise Avenue and the TV show SuomiLOVE – will win you over with his sovereign musicality. On the cruise, in addition to treating us to his new solo material, Ikonen will be charming us with his cello-playing in the ranks of the cult group Oddarrang, who have made a successful international breakthrough recently.
Saturday will be opened by Martti Vesala Soundpost Quintet, who just made their debut outing on the German label Ozella Music. We will be in for a rare comeback gig from the funk group Q-Continuum – formed by members of the defining soul ensemble, Quintessence, active in the 00s. Q-Continuum will be fronted by the spectacular keyboardist-vocalist Tuomo Prättälä.
Spiritual jazz and soul will be on offer when the gifted vocalist Nina Mya takes to the stage with her new star-studded band. The cherry on the cake on Sunday will be multi-instrumentalist, soul man Mikko Pettinen's11-piece Happy People.
Come enjoy the cream of Finnish jazz and soul on Flame Jazz Cruise 9! There will be jam sessions and other surprises, too.
