The legendary The Count Basie Orchestra visits Finland for two concerts in December. This world-famous orchestra will perform in Helsinki's Musiikkitalo on December 3 and at Turku Concert Hall on December 4.
The Count Basie Orchestra is considered one of the most important jazz orchestras in the world. Pianist and conductor William James "Count" Basie (1904–1984) founded the ensemble that bears his name in 1935.
Since 2013, The Count Basie Orchestra has been led by trumpeter Scotty Barnhart. The soloist of the orchestra's concerts in Finland is Carmen Bradford, who Count Basie originally engaged as a permanent vocal soloist of his orchestra in 1983.
The Count Basie Orchestra's concerts in Finland will be preceded by performances by the 25-piece Riku Niemi Orchestra. The main performer of the evening will take the stage after the interval.
