The full program of the 37th April Jazz Festival has been published. New additions to the program include the multiple Grammy nominee The Baylor Project (US), the luminous R&B singer Judith Hill (US), Yumi Ito (CH) and Steve Coleman And Five Elements (US), who inspired an entire jazz generation. The festival will also feature the album releases of Jukka Linkola's The Tentet and Antti Lötjönen Quintet East.
April Jazz takes place from 21 to 29 April 2023. The festival's main concerts will feature fusion drummer Billy Cobham, singer Lizz Wright, Mnozil Brass from Austria, fado's rising world star Sara Correia, and Tapiola Sinfonietta performing two new concerts.
Other first time visitors to Finland include The Baylor Project, Sara Correia and Yumi Ito, German trumpeter Till Brönner as a soloist for Espoo Big Band, the French rock/contemporary music band PoiL together with the Japanese musician Junko Ueda and the duo of Dawda Jobarteh and Stefan Pasborg.
Along with Jukka Linkola's and Antti Lötjönen's bands, Aili Ikonen and Aurora Hentunen Quintet will also perform new material from upcoming albums of the spring. Interesting solo concerts are offered by Grammy-awarded pianist Sullivan Fortner (US), trumpeter Verneri Pohjola and percussionist Tatu Rönkkö.
The concerts will be held at the Espoo cultural center, Espoo modern art museum EMMA, Leppävaara's Sello Hall, G Livelab Helsinki and Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamo in Helsinki. In addition, visitors can tune into the jazz atmosphere at the April Jazz Club's free follow-up jams organized at Tapiola Garden.
