The glorious The Duke Ellington Orchestra, lead by Paul Mercer Ellington, will tour Finland this spring in five locations.
The ensemble performing traditional jazz and swing will be seen at the Turku Concert Hall on Wednesday 11 May, Hyvinkää Hall on Thursday 12 May, Helsinki Kulttuuritalo on Friday 13 May, Tampere Hall on Saturday 14 May and Madetoja Hall in Oulu on Sunday 15 May 2022.
Duke Ellington was one of the first great composers and conductors in jazz music. In the field of traditional jazz - or “American music,” as Duke Ellington himself called his production - his reputation and accomplishments are in a class of their own.
The musical legacy of Duke Ellington, who died in May 1974, is still alive and well: after Duke's death, command of The Duke Ellington Orchestra passed to his son, trumpet player Mercer Kennedy Ellington. And when Mercer died in 1996, Paul Mercer Ellington, Mercer’s son, became the leader of the orchestra.
The glorious The Duke Ellington Orchestra, lead by Paul Mercer Ellington, will arrive in Finland in May 2022.
