The 14th Kirjazz & Blues mini-festival organized in the milieu of Kirjaslammi's dance stage in Valkeakoski offers a treat for rhythm music lovers at the beginning of June. Linda Fredriksson Juniper, Emilia Sisco and KQ Groove will delight the ears of jazz, blues and soul lovers alike.
In recent years, saxophonist Linda Fredriksson has rapidly risen to the forefront of Finnish jazz, both as a soloist, composer and leader of their band. Before their current solo career, they have been a familiar sight in the ranks of several of Finnish top ensembles such as Mopo, Superposition and Ricky-Tick Big Band. Fredriksson's first solo album Juniper is one of the most visible and praised Finnish jazz releases of recent times. Keyboardist Tuomo Prättälä, bassist Mikael Saastamoinen and drummer Olavi Louhivuori perform with Fredriksson in the Juniper band.
Emilia Sisco, who combines soulful and down-to-earth soul music with jazz and blues influences, has been relatively unknown to a larger audience, but now that seems to be changing. The singer from Helsinki performs with her group Northern Lights and has already conquered international stages, and her irresistibly soulful concerts are constantly gathering new friends in Finland as well.
KQ Groove is a long-standing ensemble based in Valkeakoski that draws from the most danceable aspects of soul and jazz. The six-member lineup, consisting of experienced and award-winning musicians, cites Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and the Tower of Power band as role models, so the band's concerts are guaranteed to get your feet moving right from the first bars.
The idyllic dance stage of Kirjaslammi offers a scenic and accessible milieu to enjoy the wonderful artists of Kirjazz & Blues. Tickets to the mini-festival organized by Työväen Musiikkitapahtuma on June 10, 2023 cost €32.50. Advance tickets are available at Tiketti.
