Teemu Viinikainen Trio releases their sophomore album "Hit it!" on the Flame Jazz Cruise on February 1 - 2.

The compositions and track list started to come together on tour in the spring of 2013. All but two compositions are by band leader Viinikainen:

"I had created some new material for the trio and on tour we got a chance to take the new songs to live audience", Viinikainen describes the process. In October 2013 the threesome took a whole bunch of ripe tracks and sketches to Markku Veijonsuo's Varistoteles studios. Many of the compositions also made it to the record, but there was still room for improv: "Aside from complete compositions, we used free improvisation to draw inspiration and get new ideas", adds Viinikainen. The result is evident: The "Hit it!" album brings out the more energetic, more dynamic Teemu Viinikainen Trio.

The two covers on the album are carefully chosen classics: Joe Zawinul's "Directions" and Duke Ellington's "Things Ain't What They Used to Be".
