Flame Jazz Talent Night, focussing on up-and-coming jazz stars, presents Teemu Åkerblom Quartet in an album-launching show at Turku's Jazz Club Monk. The album came out roughly a week ago on the legendary label Jazzaggression, run by Finland-based Norwegian DJ Fredrik Lavik. Åkerblom’s album sees a new chapter in the label's catalogue, so far mainly specified on reissues.
Åkerblom's crew consists of some of Finland’s most gifted young jazz musicians, including drummer Mikko Arlin, saxophonist-flautist Max Zenger and tenor saxophonist Ville Vannemaa. The group performs original pieces by Åkerblom, whose music fuses deeper, darker tones with a good swing.
Teemu Åkerblom’s (b. 1990) face has become familiar from such groups as the Turku-based Aura Flow and Trio Urho. Last year saw him frequently on the stage with Estonian jazz pianist Tonu Naissoo’s band, and lately he has also proved a savvy jazz DJ. Åkerblom’s own quartet was founded in early 2014 to present the already mature-sounding young bassist’s compositions.
