Eclipse Jazz Club, a new jazz concert series run by the local record label Eclipse Music, revs up after a successful autumn period by presenting a series of top concerts this winter. In addition to the familiar locale of Ylioppilasteatteri, this time the club series will invade Cultural Centre Uulu as well.
The climax of the autumn period will be a concert limelighting two fine Finnish guitarists. The headlining act will be Raoul Björkenheim Triad, who will be playing brand new material from their upcoming album, to be released in the spring. It was originally scheduled that Kokko Quartet close their album launch tour at the same concert, but due to a few obstacles they will be replaced by Tuomas Paukku Scription, led by the eponymous guitarist. Aptly, the substituting group is also currently on a launch tour, and will now be giving the final show of the tour at Tampere.
Only a couple of days later Eclipse Jazz Club will invade a new stage, namely that of the Cultural Centre Uulu. This intimate venue will be tested by duo Mikko Innanen on the saxophone and Simo Laihonen on the drums, with the menu consisting of songs lifted from the duo’s new double album, April Fools.
In January the club series will team up with music agency Free Voices Free Sounds, delivering top class French jazz à la saxophonist Matthieu Metzger. The Finnish-Icelandic-Swiss trio Equally Stupid (Pauli Lyytinen, Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson, David Meier) will be celebrating the release of their new album in the same concert.
The internationally noted pianist Aki Rissanen will wrapping up the winter season, taking to the stage of Uulu on 17 February. Like most of the abovementioned guests, Aki Rissanen Aleatoric will be treating us to new songs from their upcoming disc.
