This autumn's Vapaat Äänet tour presents the most fascinating and fearless musicians of Finnish and French jazz fields, when Superposition led by drummer Olavi Louhivuori and the duo of French pianist Roberto Negro and saxophonist Emile Parisien will perform all over the country from September 22 to October 4.
The tour, co-produced by Vapaat Äänet Agency and Jazz Finland, comprises a total of 16 concerts, six of which feature a Finnish quartet and a French duo as part of the same evening's program. In addition to joint concerts in Savonlinna, Joensuu, Raahe, Turku, Helsinki and Tampere, the ensembles will perform separately in Pori, Kotka, Lappeenranta, Hämeenlinna, Jyväskylä, Loimaa, Vantaa and Seinäjoki.
Superposition is a quartet assembled by composer-drummer Olavi Louhivuori. The quartet of two saxophones, a double bass and drums performs explosive and creative new jazz, and its musical tones naturally express both fiery free jazz and anthem-like beautiful ballads. Alongside Louhivuori, saxophonists Adele Sauros and Linda Frediksson and bassist Mikael Saastamoinen play in the band. The band will be celebrating their debut album Superposition, released by We Jazz Records in March 2020, which has been well-received both in Finland and internationally.

Les Métanuits is a variation of György Ligeti’s first string quartet Métamorphoses nocturnes by the visionary French pianist Roberto Negro. Re-composed for piano and soprano saxophone, the work of Hungarian-Austrian composer greatness exudes playful mischief and the freedom of improvisation. As a duo partner, Negro has the award-winning saxophonist Emile Parisien, who over the years has delighted Finnish listeners both with his own quartet and as a duo together with accordionist Vincent Peiran. The visit of the French duo is carried out with particularly careful security arrangements.
