Even though the Oulu Music Festival 2023 festival is now over, the spring of the Oulu residents is still filled with concerts by the OMJ Jazz & Etno series, which continues in April.
Next up in the series will be Barlast, who will take the stage on April 19. Barlast describes their music airy and stripped of everything unnecessary. The moods of the concert take you from a shepherd's call and the hum of the ring drum to a free double bass solo.
On April 26 we hear the Estonian duo Kadri Voorand & Mihkel Mälgand, whose music combines strong storytelling with improvisational pop, jazz and folk elements. The pop melodies, rhythm and improvisation of the duo's music combine in both power ballads and trendy grooves.
Oulu Music Festival's Jazz & Etno concert series features a diverse lineup of jazz and folk music stars from Finland and abroad every year. The 2023 Jazz & Etno spring season kicked off already in January, when the Olli Hirvonen Trio was heard at RioLive. After the jazz trio, the series continued with the folk music band Rällä from Oulu, and even before the Oulu Music Festival, four stars of the jazz world were also heard at the Rosenwinkel Blake Mäensivu Peri concert in March. The artistic director of the series is saxophonist Jukka Perko.
