Sointi Jazz Orchestra launches a new jazz club at Music Theater Kapsäkki, located in Helsinki. The club nights are thematic entities with interesting composer and soloist guests. In addition to the concert, a discussion event of the theme of the night is held at restaurant Bistro K. The first club night by Sointi Jazz Orchestra brings together Finnish big band pieces and excellent saxophonists.
The first Sointi Jazz Orchestra club, named as "night of two concertos", is held on Wednesday March 4th. The event includes works by two generations of big band composers: Esa Onttonen and Henri Lyysaari. Both of the pieces are composed for saxophone and big band.
Onttonen's composition "Noin viisi kappaletta saksofonille" was a breakthrough for his career as big band composer in 2001. The solo saxophonist for the piece is Mikko Innanen.
The second piece is composition by Lyysaari, called "Luotain", that was first premiered by Turku Jazz Orchestra in 2018. This soloist for this piece is Max Zenger.
The second club night is coming on Friday 3th April with a title "Rebellion". The evening includes variety of interesting big band premieres from young composers, such as Tytti Arola, Teemu Eerola, Joonas Leppänen, Aleksis Liukko, Henri Lyysaari, Tomi Nikku, and year 2020 Teosto-award nominees Mikko Sarvanne, Selma Savolainen and Pekka Seppänen, Oskari Siirtola and Rasmus Soini.
