Sointi Jazz Orchestra's first concert of the year will be broadcast from the Kapsäkki Music Theater live on Friday 12 February at 19:00. Before the concert, the orchestra’s new podcast will also premiere, delving into big band music and the stories of various composer and musician guests.
The first of the three Sointi clubs this spring will dive into the music of the Grammy Award-winning Maria Schneider. The concert will feature Maria Schneider Orchestra's repertoire from e.g. the 2007 Sky Blue album. In addition to the standard line-up of Sointi Jazz Orchestra, guitarist Tuomo Dahlblom, singer Kadi Vija and accordionist Olli Kari will be seen on stage.
Before each of this spring's Sointi club, there will also be an episode of a new podcast of the same name, which will be hosted by Panu Savolainen, a vibraphonist who produces his own Panurama podcast. In each episode Savolainen introduces the listener to the world of big band music and with various guests delves into the theme of the concert and the guests' own musical relationship and career - without forgetting the audience questions. The guests of the first podcast episode will be the conductor and artistic director of Sointi Jazz Orchestra Rasmus Soini and singer Kadi Vija.
