Selma Juudit Alessandra on Jazz Finland Tour in November–December

entry-image

The indie-jazz foursome, led by singer-songwriter Selma Savolainen, plays live in nine cities on Nov 8–11 and Nov 29–Dec 3.

Vocalist-composer Selma Savolainen’s quartet Selma Juudit Alessandra was founded in 2015 to animate Savolainen’s compositions and lyrics. The Helsinki-based band will charm nine cities with their irresistable mix of 70’s psychedelia, ethereal sounds and artsy jazz pop.

Savolainen is an aspiring vocalist and composer hailing from Helsinki, Finland. Even though her musical roots lay in jazz, diverse influences from other genres can be heard in her singing and writing. Savolainen is an alumni of the Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead program and the Banff International Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music. She has studied at the Sibelius Academy and the Conservatory of Paris.

Selma Juudit Alessandra released their debut album Rubicon Songs in December 2019. It gained attention also internationally, and served as a powerful start for the young group’s future career.

"And it does sound impressive, as the use of retro synths and the layered vocals blend well with the aggressive, (largely) acoustic rhythm section. When listening, there are echoes of the past but primarily this music is forward-looking."
