Sakari Kukko's new group, Helle ("Heat"), plays music that is in keeping with their name. The woodwind player-pianist-composer's band sticks to West-African music tradition but the repertoire includes also Finnish household composer's pieces in afrobeat arrangements.
In addition to Finns Kukko and trumpeter Mika Mylläri, the seven-piece is formed by Senegalese musicians Ndioba Gueye, Ousseynou Mbaye, Meissa Niang, Sheila Surban sekä Ismaila Sane.
The group features on YLE Radio 1 in Harri Tuominen's world music programme next Tuesday 10 June at 8:30PM.
