Porvoo Jazz Festival has released its programme. The festival, arranged for the sixth time, is held at WSOY-talo on 28 - 30 September.
The sixth Porvoo Jazz Festival takes place 28th to 30th of September. All the eight concerts are held under the same roof at WSOY-talo. The old cinema, Vanha 123, was renovated by the festival few years ago and works now as one of the concert venues. The festival retains the open-minded policy by creating a new spot for concerts as downstairs of the WSOY-talo, can be found a new pop-up club, 123Kellari. 123Kellari, which has been known as Bar Soho before, serves as the afterparty club at the festival. Both Vanha 123 and 123Kellari have a fascinating and bohemian jazz atmosphere, which makes them perfect venues to enjoy the festival’s concerts.
The concerts on Friday and Saturday starts with festival’s distinctive concept. The audience, divided to two auditoriums, changes places during the intermission, which allows the audience to hear two performers in two different halls. On Friday, Vanha 124 presents fresh Finnish jazz as bassist Jori Huhtala brings his Jori Huhtala 3 ensemble to Porvoo and singer-trombonist Jay Kortehisto interprets songs with his band. On Saturday the stage is taken over by internationally acclaimed Mopo and Elifantree.
The sixth Porvoo Jazz Festival presents new concert experiences with afterparty clubs, with enough room to move and dance freely. The Friday’s afterparty is accompanied by maestro Timo Lassy with his band. Saturday night gives a nostalgic ambience as the Fat Beat Sound System, formed in the 90s, is jamming and mixing jazz, Jamaican and South-African beats. DJ-Bunuel, the band’s front man, is known from Porvoo’s underground club, Bar Mary.
Sunday will see the end of the festival along with the jazz brunch. Details of the brunch will be announced later.
