Tuomo Prättälä, known as a versatile musician, has been chosen as the recipient of the Pori Jazz Ted Curson Award. Trumpeter Tomi Nikku will be awarded as the rising talent of the year. Both award-winning musicians will perform at next week's Pori Jazz soi taas event, which will take place on July 15-17.
Tuomo Prättälä has a long career as a soul artist known as “Tuomo”. In addition to his solo career, Prättälä is a visionary and respected keyboardist, singer and composer. As a jazz pianist, Prättälä has excelled in the Ilmiliekki Quartet and the Verneri Pohjola Quartet, among others.
Ted Curson Award is a recognition that Pori Jazz gives to artists who have performed in a big role at the festival in recent years. In addition to the recognition, Pori Jazz gives the musician financial support on a topic chosen jointly with him.
As a rising talent of the year, Pori Jazz rewards trumpet player Tomi Nikku, who has become known as a member of Alder Ego, Bowman Trio, Maxxxtet and Sointi Jazz Orchestra, among others.
Pori Jazz soi taas will be held in Pori's Kirjurinluoto from 15 to 17 July, and admission tickets for the event are on sale at Ticketmaster. Already this Friday, the Cafe Pori Jazz Park Festival will start, which will serve a free admission program until next week’s Saturday.
