Pori Jazz announces first acts for 2019

Renowned American band Toto will perform at Pori Jazz on Saturday, July 20th. Other acts of the 2019 festivals first artist announcement include Beninese world music star Angélique Kidjo and Finnish artists Ville Valo & Agents and J. Karjalainen. Tickets for the 54th Pori Jazz are available for a special price until December 31st at Ticketmaster Finland.


Toto is known for its several hits such as ”Africa”, ”Rosanna” and ”Hold the Line” and has released 17 studio albums over five decades. They’ve sold more than 40 million records worldwide.
 
On July 20th Pori Jazz will also feature one of the most interesting current Finnish collaborations as Ville Valo & Agents will perform at the festival. Ville Valo is internationally known as the lead singer of HIM and he’s joined forces with legendary band Agents whose guitarist Esa Pulliainen has arranged previously unreleased songs by Rauli “Badding” Somerjoki.
 
Angélique Kidjo interprets Talking Heads
 
On Friday, July 19th Pori Jazz will feature singer-songwriter, actor and activist Angélique Kidjo, who is indisputably one of the greatest world music stars. Her magnificent career began in the early 90’s and since then this triple Grammy winner has been known for mixing musical genres candidly. Her latest project Remain in Light is an interpretation of a classic Talking Heads album from 1980. 
 
On Thursday, July 18th J. Karjalainen, one of Finland’s most popular contemporary singer-songwriter will perform at Pori Jazz. His brand new album Sä kuljetat mua featuring his beloved and unique sound was released in October 2018. Several hits – such as “Tule kesäyö”, “Tummansininen seuralainen” and “Sä kuljetat mua” - from the album can be heard on Finnish radio stations.

Tickets for the Pori Jazz main concerts will be available on November 30th at 9 am at Ticketmaster Finland. Tickets are available for a special reduced price until December 31st.
