Jazz trio PLOP and Juhani Aaltonen celebrate their Emma Award win for the best jazz record of 2022.
Founded in 2007 by saxophonist Mikko Innanen, bassist Ville Herrala and drummer Joonas Riippa, the wild and free jazz trio PLOP joined forces with the living legend of Finnish music, 87-year-old saxophonist and flutist Juhani "Junnu" Aaltonen for the first time in 2018. The independent small label Fiasko Records released the quartet's album PLOP & JUNNU album in spring 2022.
Originally produced as a YLE radio recorging, the album contains Innanen, Herrala and Riippa's compositions created during the darkest corona times, as well as two joint improvisations by the whole group. The Emma award is the band's first.
