Riku Niemi Orchestra organises Kellokosken Kesäsoitto festival this year for the fourth time. The orchestra’s very own jazz and pop -oriented festival runs from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 July in Kellokoski. In addition to Riku Niemi Orchestra itself, the festival presents artists and groups invited by the host orchestra.
Saturday night is dedicated to George de Godzinsky (1914-1994) – a legend of Finnish popular music – to celebrate his hundredth anniversary. Riku Niemi Orchestra will perform de Godzinsky’s best-loved songs with guest vocalists Pepe Willberg, Tapani Kansa, Johanna Iivanainen and Annimaria Rinne.
Friday’s theme is James Bond, whose sonic world will be conjured up by the eight-piece Riku Niemi Cool Mambo with Reija Lang on vocals.
This year, the driving force Riku Niemi will also give a rare duo performance with vibraphonist Severi Pyysalo. This much talked-of duo in the 1980s has not performed publicly for 20 years.
On Friday and Saturday, gipsy swing and quartet jazz will ring out at the two late night concerts as Django Collective Helsinki and William Suvanne Quartet take the stage, respectively.

Riku Niemi Orchestra (RNO) is a professional, 25-member orchestra, composed of a big band and string ensemble. The group was formed in 2005.
RNO’s repertoire consists of classics of popular and rhythm-driven music, both Finnish and international, and a number of hand-picked pearls from other genres. Since its formation, the group has collaborated with notable Finnish and international artists. The group performs actively all around its home country.
