The 21st edition of the annual Jazz-Espa concert series was organised with special measures between 27 July and 1 August. The festival drew over 2000 people to the Espa Stage and restaurant Kappeli to enjoy the free open air concerts.
The Jazz-Espa concert series, organised annually by Jazz Finland, featured altogether 17 topical, Finnish jazz acts. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, special measures took place to ensure that the event remained safe for both audiences and artists.
Producer Sheri Toivomäki is content how well people adjusted to the special measures.
“The event went smoothly and people acknowledged the special situation we are having. Not as many tourists were seen at the Esplanadi park this year as normally, but the atmosphere at the Jazz-Espa was summery and jazz music was enjoyed in good spirits nonetheless.”
Jazz-Espa was produced by Jazz Finland, with financial assistance from the Finnish Music Foundation (MES) and the Helsinki Cultural Centre. Event partners include the Savoy Theatre, the Kappeli restaurant, Pianoplan T:mi Ari Harenko, and the Pop & Jazz Conservatory.
