Hypermetros, released by British Edition Records, is the fifth album from Finnish sound sculptors and creators of atmospheric epics, Oddarrang.

Oddarrang, known for cinematic and atmospheric instrumental epos, is releasing new album Hypermetros on Edition Records on 27 September. New album features memorable melodies and moody themes, which grow to majestic and beautiful music glowing with a sense of hope. Oddarrang celebrates the new album by touring in Finland this autumn and Europe in the spring 2020.

Oddarrang, functioning between the tones of  post-rock, jazz and film music, has worked with the new album last three years and is now presenting the profound and moving feat of strength. The name of the album, Hypermetros, comes from the Greek word meaning ‘beyond measure’, which perfectly reflects the bands ambition and vision.

Oddarang was formed in 2006 and they long history is based on friendship, trust and complete openness. In addition to Louhivuori, the ensemble consists of Lasse Sakara (guitar), Osmo Ikonen (cello & synthesizers), Ilmari Pohjola (trombone & synthesizers) and Lasse Lindgren (bass & synthesizer).

Hypermetros starts and ends with ambient atmospheres with Louhivuori’s Amber and Blackstarr, the first one taking the listener to a nocturnal and melancholy forest scenery and latter floating on the verge of space, above the Earth. Between these, is heard Osmo Ikonen’s Ohlop, in which the melodies of trombone and cello crisscross in the post-rock scenery, and two pieces from Louhivuori; Umi, telling a story of life and death, time and presence and 15 Years, based on a personal loss and its acceptance. Trichordon by bassist Lasse Lindgren is a triptych (I. HypermetrosII. KlimakosIII. Pandura), dedicated to Icelandic film music composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who passed away tragically last year.

Hypermetros is admittedly an album for the most devoted fans of Oddarrang, but also a great introduction for those just getting to know the band. Those already familiar with Oddarrang’s work, may find the album has more in common with In Cineman (2013) ja Cathedralin (2009) than with the latest album Agartha (2016).
