Tango is the art of excessiveness and combined with the freedom of jazz it becomes poetic and passionate, a new kind of music.
In addition to classics of Finnish and Argentine tango, Alvarado-Koivistoinen-Tuomarila trio’s repertoire consists of its members’ original compositions. “Strong melodies are a good base for improvisations, as we approache our musical material freely. As jazz musicians Alexi and me, we want to make every concert different and unique”, Eero Koivistoinen comments.
Svart Records releases the trio’s debut album, Alma, in October. The connection to brilliant melodies and atmospheres of Argentine tango is hearable in the compositions. Martin Alvarado is one of the most prominent continuator of tango tradition, and as a versatile vocalist, he can effortlessly master the twirls of jazz as well.
Alvarado-Koivistoinen-Tuomarila celebrates their album release on 16 October at G Livelab in Helsinki and 17 October at Lutakko in Jyväskylä.
