Nordic jazz enthusiasts are in for an extraordinary treat as a new Nordic Composer Contest for young jazz composers under 30 years of age is set to take place in Odense on November 3rd.

This unique competition, organized in collaboration with the Odense Jazz Orchestra (DK), Bohuslän Big Band (SE), Det Nye Norske Storband (NO), Espoo Big Band (FI) and the Danish National Acedemy of Music, promises to showcase the incredible talent and creativity of the next generation of jazz composers in Nordic countries.

The Nordic Composer Contest aims to provide a platform for emerging jazz composers to present their original compositions and arrangements to a wider audience. With the support of renowned jazz orchestras from Odense, Gothenburg, Oslo and Espoo, this competition serves as a launchpad for young artists to establish themselves in the vibrant jazz scene of the Nordic countries.

"We are thrilled to host the Nordic Composer Contest in Odense and bring together some of the most promising young jazz talents from across the region," says Torben Smige, conductor of the Odense Jazz Orchestra. "This event is a celebration of creativity, innovation, and collaboration, and we are proud to collaborate with Bohuslän Big Band, Det Nye Norske Storband, and Espoo Big Band to make this contest a memorable experience for everyone involved."

Composers under the age of 30 are invited to submit their original compositions, which will be evaluated by a panel of esteemed jazz composers and arrangers. The finalists will be chosen based on their artistic merit, originality, and technical proficiency. The selected composers will have the incredible opportunity to have their work performed live by Odense Jazz Orchestra.

"The Nordic Composer Contest offers a unique platform for young jazz composers to have their music performed by professional jazz orchestras," says Eric Brandström Arellano, manager of Bohuslän Big Band. "It is an exciting chance for these talented individuals to gain recognition and exposure while also connecting and learning from established artists in the industry."

The contest promises to be an unforgettable evening of extraordinary jazz compositions and remarkable performances. It will not only serve as a competition but also as a valuable networking opportunity for the participating composers, fostering collaboration and artistic growth within the Nordic jazz community.

"We are delighted to be part of this exceptional initiative that highlights the incredible talents of young jazz composers," expresses Henrik Sjøeng, a representative from Det Nye Norske Storband. "By bringing together musicians from different countries and backgrounds, we hope to create an environment of cultural exchange and inspiration."

The Nordic Composer Contest will take place at Odeon in Odense, where jazz enthusiasts and music lovers can witness the power of creativity and witness the birth of new musical voices in the Nordic jazz scene.
