A new live music club opens on Iso Roobertinkatu in Astoria hall. Astoria Klubi's opening will be on 15th August and see Emma Salokoski take the stage together with Kalevi Louhivuori's Free Fall ensemble.
In addition to live music, the club will also feature Digitaalinen näyttämö ('the Digital Stage') and Magic Night that will host top Finnish magic acts. The club will also feature theatre performances and classical music in the future. Many of the Astoria Klubi nights will be produced in collaboration with the seminal Fantastico Production company.
As one of its specialities, Astoria Klubi will feature the Free Fall concept, a new way to produce performances both live and online. The concept was originally conceived in 2015 and later updated in 2020 by internationally renowned jazz musician Kalevi Louhivuori together with gold- and platinum-awarded producer-musician Jan Vaaka.
In the Free Fall concerts and events, the aim is to deep dive into an artist's career and focus on their journey into becoming the performer they are now. Free Fall is essentially the artist's biography from past to present day, and as the name implies an exploration of the artist's musical self and a visit to their soul.
Later in the autumn, Astoria Klubi will also host a new jazz event called Astoria Jazz Festival 9th–11th October. The festival's artistic director is trumpet visionary Kalevi Louhivuori.
