Archipelago Sea Jazz is new internationally appealing festival based on the unique attraction of our archipelago and the high-quality jazz music.
Archipelago Sea Jazz combines four jazz festivals under the same Archipelago Sea Jazz name; two new jazz events in Turku and Mariehamn and two well established events, Baltic Sea Jazz and Korpo Sea Jazz. The cooperation between four towns creates viability and furthermore promotes international tourism in Finnish Archipelago Sea, Åland and Southwest Finland areas.
Every part of the Archipelago Sea Jazz’s events has their own profile. The new festival series offers high-class jazz events in the archipelago for several weeks.
Baltic Sea Jazz, organised for the 33th time next year in the historical surroundings of Dalsbruk’s ironworks, begins the festival series on 3 to 5 July in Kemiönsaari.
Intimate Korpo Sea Jazz continues the series on 22–25 July, and invites the audience to experience the authentic, stark beauty of the Archipelago Sea and feel the presence of nature.
Turku Sea Jazz from 31 July to 1 August, is the new urban festival, which brings the audience to Ruissalon Telakka to enjoy music from international jazz stars, top-notch Finnish ensembles and world music’s distinctive acts.
The festival series ends on 8 August with Åland Sea Jazz. Scandinavian, first-class event takes place in historical Maritime Quarter of Mariehamn. The Nordic programme of this boutique festival offers top-notch jazz in unique location.
The father of the idea, Jussi Fredriksson, has composed a theme song for the first Archipelago Sea Jazz. Annually, a new artist, performing at the festival, is asked to write a new theme song for that specific year. A taster of the next year’s theme song is available at the festival’s web page, www.archipelagoseajazz.fi.
The launching of Archipelago Sea Jazz is been funded by Ministry of Education and Culture and the concept is implemented by Jazz City Turku.
