Pepa Päivinen & Good Romans is set to release the trio’s third album on 1 August. Recently released video gives foretaste of the upcoming Felix Culpa album.
Finnish Explosions releseas the third album by Pepa Päivinen & Good Romans. Recorded during some of the darkest days of finnish winter, Felix Culpa (translates to "Happy fault") is a natural follow-up to its well-received precursors Ghost Of A Dog and Tadpoles. This time the trio expands their brand of lyrical spaciousness with more abrupt and spiky dimensions. The result is a lively set of improvised music made without compromises or safety nets.
Pertti "Pepa" Päivinen
Reedsman Pepa Päivinen is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of Finnish jazz. Widely lauded for his big and vigorous baritone sound, Päivinen has made his mark with the likes of UMO Jazz Orchestra, Edward Vesala’s Sound and Fury, Saxperiment and Anthony Braxton's Ensemble Braxtonia. Not restricting himself exclusively to any “mainstream” or “avantgarde” schools, he has managed to gather experience with an exhaustive number of musicians and projects.
Good Romans
Good Romans is the improvising duo of guitarist Ilari Filander and percussionist Jussi Miettola. The duo has been improvising since 2008, oftentimes expanding their sound with electronics. Debut Open This Door, Never Look Back was released on Finnish Explosions in 2014. In 2017 the duo teamed up with american avantgardist Eugene Chadbourne and released the album Keep On Dreaming on Temporary Music.
