Jazz Finland's new, 2022–2023 project, "Carbon Neutral Tour Model" maps the climate impact of the Jazz Finland tours and tests more sustainable structures for jazz touring. The pilot tours will take place in fall 2022. Jazz Finland calls for artists and tour producers to apply for them on a two-week period between Wed, Feb 23 and Wed, Mar 9, 2022!
Jazz Finland's new, 2022–2023 project, "Carbon Neutral Tour Model" maps the climate impact of the Jazz Finland tours and pilots more sustainable structures for jazz touring. The project supports Jazz Finland's transition to carbon-neutral touring. The project provides tools for calculating the climate impact of tours, and strengthens the sustainability skills of the live industry professionals.
The climate calculators that are produced in the project, are used to measure the carbon footprint of the whole live music industry in Finland. The comprehensive mapping will be executed in co-operation with the KEMUT project (A Toolkit For More Sustainable Live Music Industry). Based on the data that is supplied by the projects, and the analysis of the outcomes, the Finnish live music organizations will create a climate road map for the live industry. The Finnish Parliament funds the "Jazz Finland Carbon Neutral Touring" project as a part of the 2022 budget.
IT'S TIME TO MAP THE CLIMATE IMPACT OF JAZZ TOURING!
As a part of the project, Jazz Finland pilots seven jazz tours in the fall of 2022. The pilot tours test various touring models and calculate their climate impact. In addition to the pilots, Jazz Finland measures the carbon footprint and handprint of their "basic" tours in Finland, which are considered one of the organization's core services. Three of the pilot tours are co-operations with local networks, and the remaining four tours will be open for applications, starting from the 23rd of February, 2022 at 9.00 AM and ending on the 9th of March, 2022 at 4.00 PM. The link to the application form can be found below.
All the pilot tours entail 5 concerts within a period of one week. The selected participants must commit to the climate calculation process.
During the pilot tours, the musicians and concert organizers collect data about transportation, accommodations and concert productions, among other parameters. Jazz Finland provides training for using the calculators. In the spring of 2022, the pilot tour participants assemble to a workshop and networking event, where the artists and environmental specialists meet. The educational content of the event focuses on emission calculations.
The mapping of the tour emissions serves as a foundation for Jazz Finland's carbon-neutral tour model and the climate road map for the Finnish live music industry.

The support may be freely targeted to cover e.g. fees, transportation or accommodation costs. Jazz Finland requires that the salaries of the professionals are kept on a reasonable level.
