The second single, Mopo’s new rendition of the classic tune “Niin aikaisin” (So soon, trad.), reveals the trio’s softer side. Mopo’s fourth album Mopocalypse will come out on We Jazz Records in January 2018 and the group will play the new disc in its entirety at We Jazz Festival tomorrow night on 9 December.
One of the most original and buzzed-about of Finnish jazz groups, Mopo, brings out a new single “Niin aikaisin” (“So soon”) off their upcoming album. Unveiling Mopo’s softer side, the Swedish popular tune has been previously recorded by the Finnish singer Anki, among others.
Mopo’s fourth album Mopocalypse is due out on 26 January in Finland and on 23 February worldwide on We Jazz Records. The album will see their multi-layered music reach completely new levels: it is an effort that oozes blood, sweat and tears – an emotional rollercoaster ranging from fury to bitter-sweet beauty and blinding joy. First live tasters can be enjoyed at Helsinki’s Ääniwalli at We Jazz Festival on 9 December when Mopo gives a preview on the album.
Formed by saxophonist Linda Fredriksson, bassist Eero Tikkanen and drummer Eeti Nieminen, got close to splitting up when giving birth to the new album. Indeed, this feat is beautifully tangible on the disc giving their music new depth and a narrative that manages to be both logical and impulsive.
