Mini big band Njet Njet 9 releases sophomore album at Tampere Jazz Happening on 3 November

The lively nonet Njet Njet 9 issues their colourful second album Dark Soul on 3 November. The album will be released at Tampere Jazz Happening, followed by a launch tour.

Njet Njet 9 is an energetic nine-piece with a cheerful touch to making music. Their groovy debut Unicorn Attack came out last year and introduced a group equally capable of exploding jazz rock and delicate, soulful moods. While the new material is as vibrant as that of their debut, it also digs deeper and probes darker tones.

”The music sounds like Zappa and Zawinul playing tennis with Massive Attack at a Swedish summer cottage,” the band leader and composer Ville Kyttälä describes. Indeed Njet Njet 9 make music with big twists and vast landscapes. There are hints of rock, soul and electronica combined with cinematic atmospheres and big band jazz. The new album is both futuristic and nostalgic, finalised with instrumental dexterity and boundless joy of playing. Dark Soul will be released both digitally and in CD format, and there will also be a limited vinyl edition available in December. The new release will see the nonet hit the road on an extensive Finnish album launch tour, kicking off from Tampere Jazz Happening.
