The upcoming 90-minute effort, MUOVIBABYLON (Plastic Babylon), combines spoken word and jazz with noise rock and flashback to the childhood of the Generation Y for a surrealist, cinematic effect. The disc is due out on 29 April.
13-piece Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company, composed of some of the bright young things of the Finnish jazz life, have joined forces with spoken word artist Beibi P. Definitely something else, the fruits of their collaboration can be enjoyed on both aural and textual format when a double album and a book of poetry will be available for purchase on 29 April. The album launching show will take place at Korjaamo Vintti on Sunday 15 May.
In the words of Beibi P: “MUOVIBABYLON is a biography from childhood to eternity; a wrecked love story and an apocalyptic advert. A message that requires howling and whispering in equal measure. A journey to the heart of darkness but not without sweet dreams.
Led by Mikko Sarvanne, the group released their eponymous debut roughly a year ago to positive response. The debut saw their first collaborative track with Beibi P, “Varsapuistikko 8:00”, which stood out for many critics as something fresh and new.
MUOVIBABYLON is the second issue of the newly established Suola-Apina Records, managed by the multitalented Jussi Pelkonen (Beibi P). In addition to collaborating with Sarvanne’s orchestra, Pelkonen performs actively with garage punk duo Ursus Factory.
Active since 2013, Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company is a promising young group that has performed at Viapori Jazz, Flame Jazz Cruise, the BUZZ Showcase of the Oslo Jazz Festival and Pori Jazz, for example. In autumn 2014 they received, as the second act ever to be awarded, the title of We Jazz Rising Star.
