Rising singer-songwriter Laura Mvula is coming to Finland for the first time in October. The British Mvula performs with UMO Jazz Orchestra as a part of the band’s 40th anniversary celebration. The concert also features the Helsinki Philharmonic.
Soul diva Laura Mvula’s debut album Sing To The Moon was originally released in 2013 and it immediately charted all over Europe. In 2014 an orchestrated version, performed together with 52-piece Dutch Metropole Orkest was released. The songs from the debut were raised to the next level with lush arrangements featuring strings, horns, bells and a harp.
A similarly bold symphonic touch will be in evidence at the Helsinki Music Centre when Laura Mvula’s smooth voice is joined 140 musicians from the Helsinki Philharmonic, UMO Jazz Orchestra and a choir. The evening will feature songs from Sing To The Moon and Jules Buckley’s new arrangements of Mvula’s unreleased songs.
The evening will be led by Jules Buckley, whose fascinating, broad-minded and genre-busting projects with various orchestras and artists have made him one of the most sought after musical collaborators of the day.
Ticket sales will start on Thursday 23rd April at 9 am at Lippupalvelu.
