Club series Tuokio, organised by the Study Centre Sivis since 2000, has come to its end. The last edition of the club series will take place on 21 November, seeing a great number of artists from over the years take to the stage at Tenho Restobar, Helsinki.
The final edition of Study Centre Sivis’s club series Tuokio is a cross-section of 17-year history. On 21 November Tenho Restobar will play host to an encounter of artists who have appeared in different, cross-artistic Tuokio productions from over the years. The guests include some of Finland’s best-loved artists from various fields: Maarit and Sami Hurmerinta, Ville Leinonen, Elena Mindru, Jussi Jaakonaho, Markku Lepistö, Markus Holkko, Jori and Kari Hulkkonen, Heikki Tuhkanen, Eeti Nieminen, Henri Mäntylä, Jouko Kyhälä, Hannu Rantanen, Tero Toivanen, Sampo Hiukkanen, Mikko Hyttinen and Ricardo Padilla. We will be in for a night of surprises when these fine artists from different backgrounds join forces spontaneously.
From now on Study Centre Sivis will concentrate on rearing its member associations’ productions rather than producing cultural events of its own.
The 17 years of Tuokio club series have seen professional artists from all sections of the arts appear in various productions all around Finland. While the emphasis has been on live music, also cross-artistic influences have been strong, including Finnoween (2002-2006), combining harvest festival and Halloween; environmental dance piece ERIlainen; exhibition Tietokonepelit taiteena (Computer games as a Form of Art); cross-artistic web page 100 isää (100 Fathers); a travelling show about the city of Tampere and a number of film festivals centering on various themes.
Study Centre Sivis has planned and produced Tuokio clubs around themes that are relevant to its member associations. The key philosophy behind the tours is to spark discussion on topical, universal themes, such as cultural traditions, the value of nature, aging, the rights of the physically challenged, slow life, recycling and the meaning of humour and play in working life. The driving force behind the planning of the productions has been cultural planner Oskari Mänttäri.
