Ten events, six venues and seven organisers. Lahti Jazztori's programme offers a versatile combination of concerts, club gigs, cinema, poetry, circus art and chess. International guest come all the way from New York, but local talents are well presented as well.
Etelärinteen Pojat captivate the audience with their jazz and swing music at Ravintola Virasto on Monday 24 September. The ensemble has performed at St. Petersburg’s jazz clubs and they offer the best jazz in full swing and sweet tunes. The evening starts with Duo Karhos setting the mood at 18 and they may be seen at the stage later in the evening too. Perhaps with surprise guests!
Jazztori poetry night at Pikkuteatteri on Tuesday 25 September at 20 breaks barriers. The stage is taken over by Runoilijoinen orkesteri (Mikko Mankinen, Saara Metsäranta, Juha Rautio, Virpi Vairinen), who will challenge Kirjo trio (Lari Lius, Aleksi Saraskari, Ilmari Myllynen) and circus artist Rauli Karajavuori to do improvisation. Runoilijoiden orkesteri performes in different multi-arts ensembles. The orchestra has earlier performed with Pekka Kuusisto at Hiljaisuus festival in summer 2018.
The traditional opening concert of the Jazztori takes place at Kansantalo’s Vaahterasali on Sunday 23 September. The concert opens with Appelsiini, which of programme features gospel from Finland and abroad. Young musicians and student orchestras are also a part of the free opening concert. This time the bands of Tiirismaa’s higher secondary school and Lahti Conservatory represent the younger generation. The concert also features Päivi and the Moonstones, Brass Jazz Quartet, Trio Quartet and Duo Karhos.
