Lahden Jazztori brings rhythm music to Lahti from Sunday to Sunday on 22 to 29 September.

The festival programme features world-famous Marius Neset as a soloist of Sointi Jazz Orchestra on 28 September. This visit is one of the highlights of the Lahti’s culture season.

Lahti Big Band’s guest this year is known for several associations. The conductor and artistic director, Erno Tiittanen has arranged a Whitney Houston repertoire for soloist Nina Tapio. The concert on Friday 27 September begins with band’s own soloists, Klaara Koivunen and Kent Jonasson performing Stevie Wonder tunes.

On Tuesday 24, two ensembles consisting of young talents are presented at Pikkuteatteri. Guitarist Jonas Metsäkylä was awarded in 2014 as the young promise of Lahti’s culture. Afterwards he has continued his journey through Metropolia University of Applied Sciences to the Sibelius Academy's jazz music department. To Jazztori, Metsäkylä brings his own trio, which repertoire features jazz classics. “The goal is to find new tones for the pieces through interesting arrangements and by examining the dynamics between the musicians”, Metsäkylä defines.

The second act of the evening is 2+2 Band. The duo is formed by Ilmari Rönkä playing saxophone and drums and guitarist Ville-Veikko Airaniemi, handling bass as well. “Playing two instruments at the same time sets some limits but it also feeds creativity”, the duo describes the band’s basis.

One of the festival’s most waited concerts is the one where Jimi Tenor meets Arricone Brass Septet on 22 September.

The younger audience has been noted as well. The festival week ends with a bid band and rhythm music camp directed at youths. Younger talents are also in main role in the opening event.
