The club counts on household names this autumn.
Finnish jazz is well-represented in Koko Jazz Club’s programme in the late autumn. At the beginning of November jazz veteran Eero Koivistoinen will perform with a special guest Jukka Eskola. Koivistoinen’s group will be followed by Manuel Dunkel, Joonatan Rautio and Jarno Kukkonen, each with their own bands, toward the end of the month. This autumn Koko also launches a new jam night, where mic is open and the stage is free for both well- and less-known musicians to display their talent and have fun. The jam night is hosted by Koko Jazz Orchestra. The release of the aforementioned Koko house band’s new album will be celebrated on 20 November.
Koko Loft, a new concert series dedicated to free jazz, begins in August already. On stage such groups as Mopo and Plopp with such familiar names as Linda Fredriksson and Mikko Innanen.
One of the regulars, namely UMO Jazz Orchestra, will continue hosting the popular club "Monday Night at Koko" on Mondays. A number of other concerts featuring the number one Finnish big band will be announced later.
Koko Jazz Club’s programme is drawn up by the artistic director, bassist Timo Hirvonen, with drummer Jussi Lehtonen as his partner. Koko Loft concert series is curated by pianist Seppo Kantonen.
Early autumn’s programme will be complemented by a handful of Finnish and international guests to be announced later. An updated version of the programme will be published on Koko Jazz Club’s homepage, Facebook page and in the monthly newsletter.
Koko Jazz Club forms a part of Koko Theatre, an independent professional theatre founded in 1997. Koko Jazz Club was founded in 2010, on the initiative of Timo Hirvonen, who also acts as the club’s artistic director, already before the theatre’s removal from Unioninkatu to Hämeentie. Today, Koko Jazz Club shares a stage and management with Koko Theatre. Koko Jazz Club is a non-profit community with a regular live music activity, whose core is formed by concerts by the best of Finnish and international jazz musicians. Koko Jazz Club has become a major venue for Finnish jazz and aims at constantly developing its activity in order to promote professional jazz life in Finland.
