Koko kesä Kalliossa (All summer in Kallio) is a special concert series organised at Koko Jazz Club in Kallio throughout the summer.
On Thursdays, twice in June and thrice in July and August, Koko kesä Kalliossa invites one beloved Finnish artist at a time to front the house band, Koko Jazz Orchestra. The band’s core is formed by a top-class Finnish trio; vibraphonist Arttu Takalo, bassist Timo Hirvonen and drummer Jussi Lehtonen, who are joined by a number of visiting sidemen and -women each time. Koko Jazz Orchestra arranges a number of highlights from each feature artist’s career, seasoning the songs with jazz. In this way both the audience and the guest him- or herself are be able to see the all-time favourite songs in a new musical light.
In summer 2014, all guests are distinguished veterans and perennially shining Finnish stars, including Pave Maijanen, Arja Saijonmaa, Tapani Kansa, Pepe Willberg and Paula Koivuniemi. The younger generation is represented by Zarkus Poussa and Tuure Kilpeläinen. It is only fitting – the concerts are hosted by a theatre, after all – that such young multi-talents as Olavi Uusivirta and Laura Malmivaara have their own concerts. Also, it is a guarantee that the pair of pioneers, Kauko Röyhkä and Severi Pyysalo, ever true to their own musical style, will add their own, robust spice in the concert series.

Koko Jazz Club forms a part of Koko Theatre, an independent professional theatre founded in 1997. Koko Jazz Club was founded in 2010, on the initiative of Timo Hirvonen, who also acts as the club’s artistic director. Today, Koko Jazz Club shares a stage and management with Koko Theatre. Koko Jazz Club is a non-profit community with a regular live music activity, whose core is formed by concerts by the best of Finnish and international jazz musicians.
