The 24th Kerava Jazz Festival will be back to delight us 5 – 7 June 2015.
Kerava Jazz 2015 will see a return from two saxophonists with polar styles: Ernest Dawkins, hailing from Chicago, leans heavily upon the Afro-American tradition, while the Englishman John Surman’s compositions echo European jazz, choral music and British folk.
Surman performs twice at Kerava Jazz: solo at the Kerava Church and in the main concert fronting a group of Norwegian jazzers, John Surman Valhalla Quartet. Dawkins will appear as a soloist for the energetic, no-nonsense Finnish trio Black Motor, hailing from Finland’s Manchester, Tampere. The third group to perform in the main concert is the Scandinavian North Trek, with trumpeter Verneri Pohjola from Finland, percussionist Lisbeth Diers from Denmark, tuba player Daniel Herskdal from Norway and guitarist Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson from Iceland.
Furthermore, the festival programme features such groups as Serenity Ensemble, led by Finland’s star drummer Teppo Mäkynen, Finnish-Beninese Trio Toffa and Kerava All Stars.
