Kerava Jazz brings together top musicians in Finland and abroad 24.5.-26.5.2019

Kerava Jazz is held 24.5.-26.5.2019 in city of Kerava. The high-quality programme consists of Jarmo Saari & Pauli Lyytinen, Kadri Voorand, Berghäll Triality, Olavi Louhivuori Superposition!, Louis Moholo-Moholo and Afrojazz Quintet – just to name a few intresesting acts. The festival is opened by guitarist Jarmo Saari and saxophonist Pauli Lyytinen, who perform together for the first time. Both of them happily cross over experimental modern jazz and progressive rock genres. The second act of the opening concert is Estonian Kadri Voorand, who has quickly rose to the line-up of many big European festivals. Voorand is an excellent singer and violinist, and in addition to jazz her music is inspired by Estonian folk music.

The main concert on Saturday is opened by Berghäll Triality, who performs “The Antarctic” composition series, that has been recorded only a few days ago. Triality consists of saxophonist/composer Joakim Berghäll, guitarist Kalle Kalima and pianist Kari Ikonen. The following act of the main concert is Jaimie Branch Fly or Die, who consist of some of the most creative musicians of New York avantgarde jazz scene.

The last part of the main concert is started by “old school” jazz by Olavi Louhivuori Superposition!. Band consists of young musicians Louhivuori, Linda Fredrikson, Adele Sauros and Mikael Saastamoinen. The main act of the Saturday is drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo who developed the 60s free improvisation in British jazz scene.

On Sunday there’s free concerts at Aurinkomäki, featured by Milky Way Moses, with drummer Mooses Kuloniemi and young group of musicians. The next act offers African rhythms: Afrojazz Quintet performs with percussionist and singer Ismaila Sané. Also on Sunday, the church of Kerava organizes a jazz mass with cantor Janne Kaksonen and saxophonist Joonatan Rautio.
