The opening concert of the 28th April Jazz features one of the world’s most prominent jazz vocalists, Cassandra Wilson. The other headliner is alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett. Both of them are double-Grammy winning artists.
Also world music is highlighted at the festival, as the five-times Latin Grammy winner, flamenco guitarist Tomatito and world famous Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo performs in Espoo during the festival.
Other international acts and artists include Israeli bassist Omer Avital, American trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, Cuban percussionist Pedrito Martinez, Norwegian saxophonist Marius Neset and American bands Snarky Puppy, Larry Goldings/Peter Bernstein/Bill Stewart and Robin McKelle & The Flytones.
Among the Finnish names are Iiro Rantala & Espoo Big Band, Maria Ylipää & Marzi Nyman, Timo Lassy Band, HERD & Aili Ikonen and Teppo Mäkysen Teddy’s WestCoasters. The Northern Governors are making a comeback and Jarmo Saari Republic releases their debut album!
