Bassist Kaisa Mäensivu's stylish compositions will be heard this Friday night at Flame Jazz. New York meets the depths of the north in a seamless ensemble by Kaisa's Machine at Logomo and on Facebook Live.

Kaisa Mäensivu (b. 1990) is one of the great names of the future of Finnish jazz. An ambitious double bassist living and working in New York, she is a sought-after musician both in Finland and around the world. Mäensivu made her way to the Big Apple via a student exchange between the Sibelius Academy and the renowned Manhattan School of Music. She quickly settled into the metropolis and ended up completing her master’s degree in New York in 2017, under the instruction of Dave Liebman and Ron Carter, among others.

Led by Mäensivu, Kaisa's Machine is a quartet formed in the fall of 2015. The band's acclaimed debut album In the Key of K (Eclipse Music) was released in December 2017. The music composed by Mäensivu is elegant postbop jazz with influences from the current New York sound as well as northern depth. Kaisa's Machine also features each four musicians' own strengths and personal styles. Last December, the band performed as the Finnish representative at the Nordic Jazz Comets show in Paris.
