Kaisa’s Machine on Jazz Finland tour in April

entry-image

New York’s Manhattan School of Music graduate Kaisa Mäensivu and her quartet will kick off the tour with a show at Joensuu’s Pakkahuone on April 11th.

The next band to hit the road on Jazz Finland’s tour is Kaisa’s Machine, formed by the band leader and bassist Kaisa Mäensivu, saxophonist Max Zenger, pianist Mikael Myrskog and drummer Jonatan Sarikoski, all regular names of young jazz generation in Finland.

Kaisa’s Machine’s debut album In the Key of K was released last December by Eclipse Music and will now be supported with series of live dates. The band will tour seven cities around Finland and one in Tallinn.

Kaisa’s Machine was founded in autumn 2015 when Mäensivu returned Finland after her first year in New York. Her music is post-bob where can be perceived the sound of New York’s modern jazz. All four musicians of the band are strong individuals and their sound is in excellent balance in its entirety. Vivid melodies, interesting harmonies and spirited improvisation alternate on Mäensivu’s compositions for the debut album.

"Energetic bebop that could have just easily wafted out of a hole-in-the-wall NYC bar."
– Ivana Ng, New York City Jazz Record
