The composer Jussi Lampela will host a new jazz concert series at Kanneltalo in Helsinki with the ensemble Jussi Lampela Nonet under his direction. The idea is to invite Finnish jazz A-list artists to guest as soloists. The first concert will be organized on Tuesday November 5, when the ACT Music recording internationally noted trumpeter Verneri Pohjola will take the stage with the Nonet. In addition to Pohjola's music re-arranged by Lampela, the setlist will feature Lampela's new compostitions. The title of the concert is "Something Borrowed, Something Blue."
Jussi Lampela is one of the most sought-after composers and arrangers in Finnish jazz. In 2010, he recorded the acclaimed album "Lampela X Eskola" for Helsinki's Ricky-Tick Records with the Nonet featuring Jukka Eskola on trumpet. His other recent collaborations include projects with the UMO Jazz Orchestra, Vantaan Viihdeorkesteri, drummer Teppo Mäkynen's new ensemble Teddy's West Coasters, and Iiro Rantala. Lampela has also worked extensively with film scores.
The Jussi Lampela Nonet will host their jazz concerts at Kanneltalo each month from November onwards.
