Järvenpää Park Blues, planned for the end of June, will be canceled. The association that organizes Puistoblues, Järvenpään Blues-Jazz Diggarit ry, made a decision on the matter late Tuesday night. The association emphasizes that the solution was necessary from both a safety and financial perspective.
According to current information, the authorities’ restrictions on events will remain in force until the week of Puistoblues, and it is not yet safe to assume that the restrictions could be lifted in July, either.
For a long time, the board of the association that organizes Puistoblues went through various options for hosting the festival. However, in the current conditions, the chances of a mass event being corona-safe are low. The festive feeling essentially involves creating a relaxed atmosphere together with others, which is almost impossible to achieve in the uncertain circumstances created by COVID-19. Continuing the arrangements would also endanger the health and well-being of both festival guests and hundreds of volunteers.
The cancellation of Puistoblues well in advance of the summer was necessary to keep the financial losses reasonable. This was also the case last year, when the association based on volunteer work survived with the support of the city of Järvenpää. The association's board is now concentrating its efforts on planning the winter season and the Puistoblues event in the summer of 2022.
Tickets purchased for this summer can be returned. However, tickets purchased for the 2020 and 2021 Puistoblues festivals will also be valid for next year’s event.
